SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY) - The Police Force of Sint Maarten (KPSM) has arrested a 17-year-old male suspect in connection with the robbery of a visitor on Cannegieter Street in Philipsburg on Monday afternoon, September 21, 2026.
At approximately 3:00 p.m., the Central Dispatch received a report of a robbery in the area of Cannegieter Street. Patrol officers, members of the Bike Team, and detectives were immediately dispatched to the location.
Preliminary information indicates that two visitors to the island were walking along Cannegieter Street when they were approached by the suspect. The suspect allegedly attempted to pull a chain from around the neck of one of the visitors. The male victim resisted, but the suspect managed to take the chain before fleeing the area on foot.
Members of the KPSM Bike Team, who were in the vicinity, immediately initiated a search after receiving a description of the suspect. Their efforts led to the suspect being located a short time later hiding behind a dumpster on Voges Street.
The 17-year-old was arrested without further incident. The stolen chain was found in his possession and was confiscated as evidence. He was subsequently transported to the police station, where he remains in custody pending further questioning and investigation.
The Police Force also reminds visitors and residents to remain alert and report suspicious activity immediately to the police. Information from the public can be crucial in helping officers respond quickly and apprehend suspects.
