SINT MAARTEN/GHANA - On Thursday, November 20, 2025, the President of Parliament, the Hon. Sarah A. Wescot-Williams—Chairlady of the 3rd International Conference on Gender Equality (ICGE-25), held at the University of Ghana in Accra—delivered the opening statement to officially launch the conference.
This year’s theme is “Charting the Next Frontier to Advance Gender Equality in Developing Economies in the Post–30 Years Beijing Declaration Era.” In her opening statement, she called for urgent global action to advance gender equality in an increasingly digital world.
The first day of the conference featured a lineup of speakers from government, parliaments, academia, and civil society. Among the contributors were the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Gender, the Hon. Helen Adjoa Ntoso, and Ghana’s Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, the Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, who reflected on Ghana’s national vision for achieving gender-balanced governance.
Participants engaged in presentations, panel discussions, and artistic performances centered on the conference theme, examining progress made to date, citing remaining challenges, and identifying strategic pathways forward using the tools and opportunities available in today’s world.
As Chair of the Conference, President Wescot-Williams delivered the closing remarks for Day 1. ICGE-25 continues on Friday, November 21, and Saturday, November 22, 2025.
