SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY) - The Rotary Club of Sint Maarten-Mid Isle, in proud collaboration with Windward Islands Bank (WIB), successfully hosted the Semi-Final Round of the 2025 Spelling Bee Competition on Sunday, November 16th at the Paradise Event Hall.
The top 10 scorers from the preliminary round competed for a prestigious spot in the Grand Finale. Semi-finalists represented Asha Stevens Hillside Christian School, St. Dominic Primary School, Seventh Day Adventist School, Caribbean International Academy, Alwyn Allison Richardson School, Orealia Kelly Primary, and Omololu International School.
Participants were inspired by words of encouragement from Mrs. Esmeralde Richardson-Rommy, President of the Rotary Club of Sint Maarten-Mid Isle, and Mrs. Daisy Carolus-Tyrol, Country Manager of the main sponsor, Windward Islands Bank.
Chairwoman Grace Linger outlined the rules and introduced the moderators, judges, timekeeper, and typer.
The Semi-Final featured two spelt-out rounds, with each contestant spelling 20 words—10 per round—while correct spellings were displayed for the audience. After an intense and exciting competition, the following top five students advanced to the Finals, scheduled for November 30th:
Emily Wathey Juricka (Caribbean International Academy) – St. Maarten
Amara Richards (Seventh Day Adventist School) – St. Maarten
Arudra Bharrat (Orealia Kelly Primary) – Anguilla
Elenor Bradshaw (Orealia Kelly Primary) – Anguilla
Glory Hnin (Alwyn Allison Richardson Primary) – Anguilla
Moderators Rotarian Natalie Humphrey and Mr. Rolando Tobias, along with Timekeeper Rotarian Kimona Richardson-King, were honored with tokens of appreciation for their dedication.
