SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY) - Prime Minister Dr. Luc F.E. Mercelina received the Sint Maarten Trust Fund's 2025 Annual Report, the Annual Report Executive Summary, and the fifth volume of the Trust Fund's Results Storybook, Strong Communities, Strong Country: Stories of Recovery and Resilience in Sint Maarten, from Program Manager, Ms. Toyin Jagha, in June 2026. Now in its eighth year, the Trust Fund's results are no longer projections but visible realities for the people of Sint Maarten.
The report covers a portfolio of US$519 million spanning eight active projects. The Princess Juliana International Airport has been fully restored and upgraded, completed under budget, reconnecting Sint Maarten to the world on stronger footing. More than 320 small businesses have received financing to grow and create jobs, nearly half of them women-led, energizing a private sector still finding its footing after Hurricane Irma.
In healthcare, fewer families are being forced to travel abroad for care, with substantially reduced overseas medical referrals and increased patient satisfaction. And through 91 community subprojects, more than 20,000 people, nearly half the island's population, now have safer spaces, better access to services, and stronger systems to weather the next crisis.
This year's storybook goes beyond the numbers. It brings in the voices of residents, entrepreneurs, medical professionals, and students whose lives reflect what recovery looks like on the ground, making the case that the most important measure of progress is not what was built, but who it reached.
"Presenting this report directly to the Prime Minister was a meaningful step in deepening government engagement at the highest level," said Ms. Jagha, Program Manager, Sint Maarten Trust Fund, World Bank Group. "The feedback we received reinforces our commitment to ensuring the next phase of this work is shaped by Sint Maarten's own priorities and leadership."
