SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY) - On Saturday November 22, 2025, the Sint Maarten Youth Parliament’s 2025 Annual Interscholastic Debate Competition (AIDC) came to an exciting finish between St. Dominic High School and the St. Maarten Academy. St. Dominic High School defended the moot: “Our modern carnival does not serve to preserve our culture amongst our youth.”
St. Dominic High School was victorious in the night’s endeavors, becoming the 2025 champions of the Annual Interscholastic Debate Competition.
The Best Speaker title was awarded to Magdalena Dorlis, the second speaker from St. Dominic High. At the end of the evening, the Sint Maarten Youth Parliament recognized the best speakers from the previous debates; Asante Philipps (MPC), Mai-Angel Martis (CIA), Tanya Halley (SDHS), Jada Smith (MPC), Gabrielle Pauletta (MPC), Jalia Paisley (Academy) and Adjwoa Bernabe (Academy). The overall best speaker was awarded to Kevin Omeus of St. Maarten Academy.
The Sint Maarten Youth Parliament would like to thank the judges, Astra White, Robinette Barbij, Muraiye Pierre, Star Peterson, Dr. Lucien York, Maruska Levestone, Dr. Yadira Boston, Dr. Nicole Erna Mae Francis-Cotton and Vicario Ellis and our best speaker judges, Linette A. Gibs, Brenda Maynard and Elroy Hughes.
The Sint Maarten Youth Parliament gives their utmost gratitude to the participating schools – Milton Peters College, St. Maarten Academy, St. Dominic High School and Caribbean International Academy – and their coaches for making this year’s debate a success.
