SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY) - The crew of youth publication Teen Times held its annual Christmas Toy & School Supplies drive on Friday, December 20th and Saturday December 21st at Super City on Bush Road.
This is the third consecutive year that the group has collaborated with Super City to fulfill its slogan of “Putting a Smile on a Childs Face” for the holiday season. The group reported a new record this year by collecting six large boxes of toys and schools supplies for the less fortunate.
Previously a max of four boxes were collected. An estimated (approximately) five hundred items were collected.
“We are so grateful for the generosity shown by the general public. When we started this project a few years ago we hoped that our community would find it in their hearts to give back big. Every year since they have supported unconditionally and we are so happy that we can put even more smiles on even more faces this year,” Coordinator of Teen Times Rochelayne “Roosje” Rommy-Richardson said.
She extended her thanks to all of the children who were shopping in Super City and who literally made their parents contribute with a gift. “That was so sweet to see. If a parent was walking out without depositing something in the boxes, the kids would make the parents donating something. Even a small monetary donation,” she added.
She extended the groups’ thanks to the Management and staff of Super City who are always “super helpful and super welcoming. It is a partnership we are proud of.” Teen Times will now wrap and deliver all of the items to select entities and schools.
Members of Parliament from the United People (UP) party Omar Ottley and Francisco Lacroes also visited the drive and made donations. Both congratulated Teen Times on its initiative and wished them the best of luck.
Shoppers of Super City donated many toys and school supplies.
