Traffic lights functioning again at Prince Bernard Bridge | SOUALIGA NEWSDAY

SINT MAARTEN (PHILIPSBURG) – The Police Force KPSM is asking the public to be aware that the traffic lights by Prince Bernard Bridge are now functioning again, the police announced in a statement on Sunday.

These lights were out of commission since the passing of Hurricane Irma in 2017. They were put back into service Sunday morning at 11.00 am, after a test period of about a week.

The police would like to inform the community about one of the major changes that will go into effect at the crossing of the Prince Bernard Bridge as of today Sunday November 24, 2019.

In accordance to international rules, the traffic lights will flash orange between 10.00 pm and 06.00 am every evening.

The public should be aware that running a red light is a punishable act in accordance to the traffic ordinance of country St. Maarten.  Drivers should also be aware that running an orange light is also considered an offence on the same level as running a red light, but generally, there is more leeway when it comes to driving through an orange signal due to stopping being potentially dangerous.
