SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY) - In the early morning hours of Monday, September 14, 2026, shortly after 1:00 a.m., police officers conducting controls on the Zagers-Gut Road intercepted a white Kia Seltos that had previously been identified in a video circulating on social media.
The video showed a group of men displaying several firearms on Sint Maarten. During the police control, officers recognized the vehicle and proceeded to stop it near the intersection of Zagers-Gut Road and Coralita Road.
When the vehicle was stopped, the driver exited the vehicle while carrying a firearm. Officers immediately instructed him to place the weapon on the ground, which he did. The firearm was subsequently secured by the police.
The driver, identified by the initials J.J.B., who is known to the police, was immediately arrested. The passenger, identified by the initials C.E.D., was also taken into custody.
Both men were transported to the police station in Philipsburg, where they remain detained for questioning in connection with the firearm possession. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the firearm and the video is ongoing.
