URSM Exposes NAs Double Standards: “You Cannot Preach What You Refuse to Practice” | SOUALIGA NEWSDAY

SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY) - The Unified Resilient St. Maarten Movement (URSM) has taken note of the National Alliance’s (NA) recent public comments concerning ongoing discussions with the Fire and Ambulance personnel. While URSM welcomes open debate, the party will not allow political contradictions, selective memory, or misleading narratives to cloud the truth or sow confusion among the people of St. Maarten.

The URSM Board responded firmly to the NA’s accusation that the government is “looking in the rear-view mirror,” calling the claim both inaccurate and ironic. According to the Board, it is the National Alliance—not URSM—that constantly revisits, defends, and reframes its own time in office whenever it suits their argument on the floor of Parliament.

“If the National Alliance insists that leaders should stop looking back, then they should begin by practicing what they preach,” the Board stated.

“You cannot accuse others of dwelling on the past while repeatedly referencing your own years in government at every turn. The people of St. Maarten see the double standards clearly.”

The Board emphasized that URSM’s references to inherited issues are not political blame games but honest explanations of the realities the current administration stepped into. This government has not yet served a full year in office, and the first URSM-led administration lasted a mere 17 days before the National Alliance joined efforts to topple it. These facts are essential to understanding the long-standing challenges affecting key departments like Fire and Ambulance.

“We are not making excuses — we are stating the truth,” the Board said.

“You cannot fix problems that were ignored or delayed for years without first acknowledging them. Honest leadership requires facing reality, not pretending it starts on the day you take office.”

The URSM Board also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to meaningful dialogue with Fire and Ambulance personnel. These men and women put their lives on the line for this country, and they deserve more than political theater. The Board stated that the government remains committed to addressing their concerns responsibly and respectfully.

The URSM Board concluded by calling on all political actors to rise above theatrics and prioritize the needs of the people.

“St. Maarten is tired of political games. Our people want honesty, stability, and leaders who are willing to face challenges head-on. This government remains committed to telling the truth, taking responsibility, and delivering results. We will not be distracted by false narratives or political posturing.”
