Aqua Mania Adventures invites all to join their 2nd Annual Pink Sunset Sail in support of Breast Cancer with the Positive & Elektralyets Foundation
Simpson Bay, St Maarten – September 5, 2016 – After last year’s enormous success, Aqua Mania Adventures is proud to bring back the Pink Sunset Sail to raise awareness for Breast Cancer. This second edition takes place on Saturday October 1st from 5pm – 7pm, the day after the Pink Parade kicks off Breast Cancer Awareness month. The Pink Sunset Sail is raising funds through ticket sales and a raffle. Proceeds will go to the Positive and Elektralyets Foundations to help them in their efforts to raise Breast Cancer Awareness on the island of St. Maarten. Funds go towards research, testing and education.
Last year’s event raised over $2500 and organizers are thrilled to invite people to join the 2nd edition of this fun event. “Our Pink Sunset Sail made breast cancer a more approachable topic in an informal and relaxed environment.” Says event organizer Michele Korteweg. “It often seems as if there is a taboo on talking about cancer, but breast cancer affects so many people, not just women, as entire families are devastated by this disease, it needs to be discussed in order to spread awareness and have people check themselves regularly. The feedback we received after last year’s event was incredibly positive, people even booked their vacation dates around our event. For us it was an amazing way to contribute to the local Foundations who used the funds to support the local community with free screenings and education.”
The Pink Sunset Sail departs at 5.30pm from the marina at Simpson Bay Resort where Aqua Mania Adventures is located. The company made Lambada and Tango, 65’ sailing catamarans, available for a coastal sail into the sunset, allowing 140 people to be part of this unique event. In addition they have teamed up with Out Island Charters who made one of the Golden Eagles available, adding an additional 80 seats to this fabulous event.
Tickets are for sale at $40pp, which includes a unique Pink T-shirt, a Pink Mimosa, open bar, snacks and a wonderful sail along St. Maarten’s golden coastline, sightseeing, sipping cocktails and watching the green flash. Part of the proceeds will be donated to the Positive and Elektralyets Foundations to support their programs regarding breast cancer. Tickets can be bought at Aqua Mania Adventures locations in Simpson Bay Resort and at Divi Little Bay, directly online or at the activity desks for hotel guests.
With the assistance of local businesses, Aqua Mania Adventures will again organize a raffle on board the boats as an additional fundraising opportunity which will increase the total proceeds for the Foundations and guests will get the chance to win fabulous prizes. New this year is Red Piano’s support of the event. They guarantee that the fun will continue long after the sun sets, with an after party at the ‘Pink Piano’ with a talented entertainer, Allan Sheppard.
Last year Aqua Mania Adventures welcomed over 140 people aboard the Pink Sunset Sail and raised over $2500 for the Positive and Elektralyets Foundations.
“The earlier breast cancer is detected, the better the chances of survival”. says Positive Foundation President Shelly Alphonso. “During the month of October, the Positive Foundation along with its partnerships including the SMMC, the medical practitioners on St. Maarten and sponsors, will provide free screening opportunities, 100 free mammograms, free breast self-examination workshops and free educational literature at the various Medical Clinics on the Island. These are just some of the ways the Positive Foundation plans to educate our community on the importance of early detection and the symptoms and signs of breast cancer. We are very grateful that businesses like Aqua Mania Adventures are coming onboard to assist us with our cause.”
“The Elektralyets Foundation has been collaborating with the Positive Foundation for almost 10 years. The Elektralyets main goal is to coordinate the big Breast Cancer Awareness Events throughout the month of October and to unite women and men of St. Maarten, alerting them to the cause. This has been a developing process over the years and each year the Elektralyets Foundation seeks out new sponsors and organizations that would like to work with them to help the Breast Cancer Awareness movement save lives on the island of St. Maarten and reach more people each year. That’s why we are also happy to collaborate with Aqua Mania Adventures who has also become a great partner and continues to grow our event each year with innovative and creative ideas.” President of the Elektralyets Foundation Mercedes “Elektra” van der Waals-Wyatt said.
With a 90-minute beautiful sunset sail and the chance to win fabulous prizes, the Pink Sunset Sail is guaranteed to be a successful fundraising event of the Breast Cancer Awareness month on the 1st of October. Aqua Mania Staff will show their support with “Fridays in Pink” for the whole month of October, hoping that many other companies will follow suit.
