MARIGOT:— On January 13, 2017, at approximately 03:00, a 55-year-old man was assaulted on the public road, Rue Black Berry in Saint-Martin. The victim received injuries from a firearm on the knee.
The gendarmerie started an investigation shortly after by gathering elements during the attack. Due to the diligent investigation carried out by the gendarmerie, the investigators managed to identify the suspect on January 21st 2017. The suspect was arrested on the public road in Marigot. Due to the indebt investigation, the investigators managed to establish hat the suspect was also involved in several other criminal offences that were committed both the French and Dutch sides of the island.
A press release from the gendarmerie stated that the suspect was transferred to Guadeloupe where he appeared before the investigating judge in Pointe Pitre. A judicial investigation has been initiated while the suspect has been placed in pretrial detention at the Baie Mahault Prison.
