PHILIPSBURG:— The St. Maarten Christian Party (SMCP) is pleased to announce the candidacy of Ms. Beverley Gibbs on the SMCP slate for the upcoming Parliamentary elections.
Born in Aruba of a Sint Maarten father and a Saban mother Beverley is no stranger to politics and to Government. While living and working in the Netherlands she joined the Dutch Labor Party and ran on its list as a candidate for the Municipal Council elections in Amstelveen. Even though she did not obtain a seat in the Council the experience gained as a politician in the Netherlands and as a project manager for the Municipality of Amsterdam was invaluable and helped to prepare her for her candidacy on the SMCP slate.
After learning of the vacancy of Secretary of the Island Territory of Saba, Beverley applied and was hired for the job. After her tenure in Saba she settled in the land of father and returned to her first love namely special education. Beverley is by profession an educator, having studied Special Education at the University of Amsterdam.
In Sint Maarten Beverley joined the staff of the AHEAD Centre for Excellence Special Education School where she was appointed program coordinator for children with Autism. She also followed a special training for children with autism at the University of North Carolina, USA. When the AHEAD Centre closed, due to lack of funding, Beverley established the I TOO CAN LEARN Foundation and opened a facility for special education in Dutch Quarter for children, ages 4-16, with learning difficulties: autism and Down Syndrome.
Beverley has been following the developments in government and on the island and believes that she can make a difference in helping to bring about good governance and to improve the quality of life for the people of Sint Maarten, especially for those who are mentally and physically challenged. She certainly intends to make herself available to SERVE THE PEOPLE FOR A CHANGE
