Double Check to see tarpaulin roofs are secure due to windy weather.

PHILIPSBURG (DCOMM):— The Fire Department is those residents who are residing in a home with a tarpaulin roof to double check that it is secure due to windy weather conditions.

The St. Maarten Meteorological Department (MDS) reported on Friday that a moderate to strong breeze of 14 to 25 miles per hour with higher gusts is expected through Saturday morning along with brief passing rain showers.

The windy weather conditions is being caused by a surge of low-level moisture passing through the region that will cause periodic cloudiness and isolated showers across the local area.

“Additionally, a tight pressure gradient associated with the strengthening Atlantic high pressure will cause brisk winds and deteriorating seas, with above normal northeast to easterly swells.

“Rough waves are expected to peak near 12 feet on Saturday, particularly on the eastern shore. Sea bathers and occupants of small crafts are urged to stay on shore to prevent personal injury, death, or material damage over the weekend,” the MDS statement said on Friday.
