Education and Music on the Move.

PHILIPSBURG:—The talented students of Public Education serenaded all public schools and some of the businesses in Philipsburg in a week of sharing the Holiday cheer from Monday 3rd December to Friday 7th December.

This was coordinated by Mrs. Glenderlin Davis Holiday, Head of Department of Public Education and Head of the Music Enhance Committee (MEC). This committee compromises music teachers: Rosemary Marsham Hodge, Everard Blackman, Omar Hunter, Edsel Eusebius, Fleur Kong Yong Fook – Rosenblad and Donnavan Lynch.
Along with the students, the team presented two shows per day at the public schools. Items included performances of students rendering wonderful solos, duets, choir, items on the steel drums, string band, xylophones, recorders, poetry, and many more cultural items including the Punam dance.
The performances of these students were enjoyed by the TELEM group, Windward Island Bank, Royal Bank of Trinidad, the Government Building and the Cruise Ship Complex. The Government Building was a high point as the MEC felt it necessary to give back and share the spirit of the season as the nation is still in the rebuilding phase. The workers enjoyed the group’s rendition of their original song “Sint Maarten Love” and other items. The MEC normally has one big Christmas event under the tents of Port De Plaissance but due to financial constraints it was decided to go from school to school to assist in cutting costs.
An annual visit is paid to the Sint Maarten’s Home for senior Citizens who showed their appreciation immensely by dancing and clapping along to performances. The MEC thanks all contributors who assisted in making the event a success, as well as benefactors who often contribute to this cause. Any funds raised during the event go back to further develop the music program among Public Schools. Congratulations to Mrs. Glenderlin Davis Holiday and the MEC team for a job well done.
