PHILIPSBURG:--- The Minister of Justice Edison Kirindongo officially suspended the Director of Immigration Udo Aron on Wednesday. SMN News learnt that Aron got his letter after the Prosecutor’s Office informed the Minister that they started to investigate what transpired on May 5th at the Princess Juliana International Airport (PJIAE) based on his request.
According to information reaching SMN News Aron returned to the island from the Dominican Republic where he went to attend a course on the issuance of visas, upon returning SMN News understands that Aron brought back a female Domincano with him and he bypass the immigration officers with his female friend who did not even have a visa to enter St. Maarten. SMN News learnt that an immigration Officer identified as Rosy Priest called out to Aron and informed him that he needed to follow the procedures but Aron told the officer that she could do whatever she wanted and even write what he said in her report.
After that Aron then went to his friend August Emmanuel who is the Acting Director of IND and told him to reprimand the Immigration Officer for not following direct orders from her superiors.
SMN News further learnt that the officer immediately contacted her union and informed of what transpired and the union then filed a complaint with the Minister of Justice who ordered his own investigation and after receiving a full report of the incident he wrote the Attorney General and requested that indebt investigation be conducted.
The Minister confirmed to SMN News earlier that he did asked for the investigation based on the information he gathered and said at the time he will wait to see what steps the Attorney General and Prosecutor’s Office will take. Such cases have to be investigated by the Landsrecherche (National Detectives.)
However, on Wednesday SMN News reporter tried reaching Minister of Justice Edison Kirindongo for an official comment on the suspension but he could not be reached.
