French Quarter/Tentamare:— Gendarmes had to seize a boat on the orders of the French Prosecutor after members of the Reserve Naturelle filed a complaint against the owner of the boat who lives somewhere in French Quarter.
SMN News learnt that the boat owner and his friends were parting on his boat on Tentamare Island two weeks ago when the members of the Reserve Naturelle approached the boat and asked the occupants to respect the nature and to desist from polluting the area.
Based on information provided to SMN News the owner of the boat became very aggressive and insulting towards the members of the Reserve Naturelle who was also on a boat patrolling the area.
SMN News understands that when the Reserve Naturelle boat left Tentamare on its way back to St. Maarten the boat that was at Tentamare followed them and then took their boat and hit the boat belonging to the Reserve Naturelle creating a fearful situation at sea and damaging the boat slightly.
SMN News learnt that the Reserve Naturelle filed a complaint with the Gendarmes and the prosecutor ordered that the boat that belongs to a resident of French Quarter be seized as they investigate the case.
A number of Gendarmes showed up at the home of the boat owner on Friday morning who were confrontedwith an angry man that called his friends to block the road with trucks and other vehicles in order to stop the gendarmes from carrying out the orders given by the prosecutor.
It is further understood that the gendarmes returned on Friday afternoon, with re-enforcements and managed to seize the boat and placed the owner in garde a vue for one day.
However, the feud did not stop there, the boat owner when released allegedly went to the Reserve Naturelle and again threatened them.
SMN News tried contacting the Prosecutor for a comment on the case but he could not be reached by phone.
