~ marchers could not even sing the St. Maarten song~
PHILIPSBURG:— Less than 200 persons showed up on Wednesday morning to participate in the march that was organized by the Enough is Enough Foundation to decry the Justice system on St. Maarten.
Those that showed up had umbrellas to weather the rainy the day as they chant “Let our leaders lead”, Enough is Enough” and St. Maarten Strong. Embarrassing was the fact that those that participated in the march could not sing the St. Maarten song “Oh Sweet St. Maarten Land.” The marchers tried to sing the well-known song that is also dubbed as the country’s national anthem as they waited outside each location where the organizers presented their petition.
Organizers of the march are some persons on the island that are pro-independence. The march was organized after the Court of Appeals grant the Prosecutor’s Office the rights to investigate and prosecute Leader of the UD Theodore Heyliger. Besides the march the organizers signed a petition which they presented to the Parliament of St. Maarten, The Dutch Representative, The Governor’s Office, the Prosecutor’s Office and Prime Minister Leona Marlin along with Minister of Justice Cornelius de Weever of St. Maarten at the Government Administration Building. Among them were some Ministers that were appointed by Heyliger, one being the Minister of TEATT Stuart Johnson.
The turnout on Wednesday is far less than 10% of the people that voted for the UD leader on February 26th when St. Maarten had its snap elections.
The march was carried via Facebook livestream.
