Man stabbed at Grand Marche entrance by mentally ill patient.

PHILIPSBURG:— The Detective Department is presently investigating a stabbing which took place on Friday May 6th at approximately 04.45 p.m. at the entrance of Grand Marche in Cul-de-Sac. The victim stated that he was about to enter the establishment to do some shopping and was unexpectedly attacked by an unknown man who was standing outside and stabbed him three times in his back with an ice pick. The victim was treated on the scene by paramedics and the taken to the Sint Maarten Medical Center for further treatment. The suspect who turned out the be a mental patient and well-known to police was arrested on the scene and taken to the Police station for further investigation. The ice pick used in this case was also confiscated for further investigation.
