PHILIPSBURG:— In May 2016 the Ministry was informed by a representative of the Ministerie van Veiligheid en Justitie in the Netherlands of the intention to revive the concept of the Kingdom Games (Alleen Jij Bepaalt).
The tournament is the initiative of the Minister of Internal Affairs and Kingdom Relations Ronald Plaster and is being organized by the Ministry of Justice of Aruba and of the Netherlands. The tournament takes the following stance “Alleen jij bepaalt wie je bent” (AJB) and it is an intervention aimed at the youth between the ages of 12 and 17. The sports being focused on for this initiative is baseball, basketball, and soccer. It is expected that Prins Pieter Christiaan of Orange Nassau will officially open the tournament during the first baseball game.
St. Maarten is expected to participate in the tournament with one baseball team. Minister Jacobs along with a representative from the Department of Sports will be attending the tournament to observe and to take note of the organization of such a tournament and also take the opportunity to meet with Sports Department counterparts in Aruba.
