WILLEMSTAD/PHILIPSBURG:— As of December 1, 2018, a new Opium Offense directive will enter into force for the Caribbean Public Prosecutor’s Office (OM Carib).
This is a new guideline from the Prosecutor General (PG) to the Public Prosecutors (OC) of Curaçao, Sint Maarten and the BES islands on the sentence in the case of the arrest in connection with Opium offenses such as cocaine, heroin, XTC, marijuana, and its derivatives. The guideline goes into effect on December 1st. 2018. The directive gives the necessary guidance to the Prosecutor’s how to deal with these offenses in the event of first-offender or recidivism.
