PHILIPSBURG:— Bureau Telecommunications and Post St. Maarten (BTP) – in collaboration with Internet Society (ISOC), Lacnic and CaribNOG – will be hosting an Internet Week on St. Maarten from October 24th until October 28th in Sonesta Great Bay Beach Hotel.
During the St. Maarten Internet Week several international speakers will give lectures and workshops on a large variety of internet topics such as the Internet Ecosystem, Net Neutrality, Internet Governance, Internet of Things, IPv6, Cyber Security and much more.
The main objective of the conference is to create a platform to discuss the role of broadband in the economic growth of our nation, as global studies have indicated that building broadband has a positive effect on GDP, productivity, and employment growth of a country.
Director of BTP Mr. Anthony Carty stated that major outages like today are reminding us how important it is to bring all key players together and have an open discussion on our internet landscape. “We as the Telecom Regulator remain committed to accelerate broadband development on our island. In collaboration with the local operators & Internet Service Providers, our counterparts in the region, key stakeholders abroad, and our Ministry of TEATT we will make ongoing efforts to drive innovation, and develop internet policies that are safeguarding a stable, secure and open internet that is accessible to all”.
