PHILIPSBURG:— In commemoration of World Polio day on October 24th the Rotary Club of St. Maarten-Mid Isle has organized two fundraising events. The first highly successful event was held in September with ‘The Alex & Ani Charmed by Charity Event’ at their store in Front Street, whereby 15 per cent of the takings for that day were donated to Mid Isle towards The End Polio Now Project’.
The second event is the Ramesh Manek Walk-a-thon to ‘End Polio Now’ being held on Saturday, October 22nd starting at Tony’s Air conditioning opposite Carl & Sons in Cole Bay. This walk will take you around the lagoon, leaving Tony’s Air conditioning, onto Welfare Road, across the Causeway, along Union Road and Orange Grove returning to Tony’s Air conditioning. The ticket cost is USD 15.00 and includes breakfast and ‘End Polio Now’ T. shirt, the shirts have been sponsored in part by Reena Manek, Nagico, and Lucky Wholesale. This event was named The Ramesh Manek Walk-a-thon to ‘End Polio Now’ after the death of Rotarian Ramesh who first began the walk-a-thon to raise funds for ‘End Polio Now’. Ramesh was an inspiration to all in District 7020, contributing to Rotary’s goal to eradicate Polio from the world. Tickets are available from all Mid Isle members, if you are unable to get a ticket no worries tickets will be available at the venue.
The funds raised from these two events will be tripled, thanks to the 2:1 match by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
