MIAMI/PHILIPSBURG:—- The relatives of Alberto Cutino Cordova who went missing at sea last Monday is now offering $5,000.00 to anyone who may have their father/uncle alive.
His daughter Diani Cuitno-Cordova Marrero who alerted SMN News to the tragedy at sea which probably claimed the lives of 16 persons sometime between Sunday and Monday last week said now that the search and rescue in San Juan has ended their search for any possible survivors or bodies, the family has decided to offer $5,000.00 to anyone who may have her father/uncle alive. Cordova said the reward is only valid if Alberto Cordova is found alive.
Anna Ponte the niece of Alberto Cordova said that the family came to together and decided to put out a reward because they were told by authorities that their relative could have reached safely to one of the islands but he is probably lost. She further stated that since the boat went down her uncle lost all his belongings and there is high chance that he do not have their telephone numbers simply because he just cannot remember it.
While it is clear that the boat Beul Spirt went down somewhere close to Virgin Gorda, and only four persons were rescued it is clear that the Cordova family still has hope that her relative is alive and is probably on some other island. The ill-fated boat left St. Maarten sometime during the night on Saturday into the early hours of Sunday morning transporting at least 19 persons to the St. Thomas. Of the four persons that were rescued by a passing boat was the captain and crew but authorities in BVI deported the two men to their countries of origin without making contact with authorities on St. Maarten/St. Martin.
