RST continues OPAL investigation involving Viavia Trust Company — House search conducted in Curacao.

Willemstad/ PHILIPSBURG:— The RST (Kingdom Detectives) conducted a house search at the home of well-known notary Edgar Gijsbertha located at Jongbloed Curacao on Tuesday morning. The detectives seized a number of files, computers and other digital carriers as they continue the Opal investigation which involves, tax fraud and facilitating of tax fraud, forgery, and money laundering. The Opal investigation also involves the trust company Viavia where a search was done in St. Maarten on April 20th, 2016. The trust company is also connected to Mingo notaries.

A spokesman for the Prosecutor’s Office confirmed the search that took place on Tuesday morning in Curacao and he also confirmed the items that were seized.

Based on information SMN News received the Opal investigation was launched since the Prosecutors on St. Maarten is prosecuting the Buncamper’s case which involves the selling of economic rights of government long lease land. The Buncamper’s filed an appeal against the ruling of the Court of First Instance and their appeal hearing is scheduled to take place sometime soon.
