PHILIPSBURG: ---The Honorable Commissioner of Saba, Mr. Bruce Zagers, recently paid a courtesy visit to Honorable Minister of Tourism, Ms. Irania Ingrid Arrindell, during which matters of mutual interest between the two countries were briefly discussed. Commissioner Zagers expressed his desire to foster a closer working relationship between Saba and St. Maarten, given the natural ties of a shared heritage that unite both islands.
St. Maarten and Saba will engage in increased joint-marketing initiatives that will focus on tourism related projects, similar to what was done earlier this year when St. Maarten, Saba and St. Eustatius combined their resources and shared a booth at the 2016 ‘Vakantiebeurs’ tradeshow in Holland.
“There are many areas in which the islands can cooperate. One area of cooperation is where the visitor’s experience can be enhanced by offering multiply vacation-destination possibilities during a single trip. By ensuring that airfares are affordable, that attractive hotel accommodations are available, and that seamlessly smooth inter-island transfers amongst our collection of islands are possible, we can offer an experience that distinguishes us from the competition. The Dutch islands are indeed the jewels of the Caribbean, and we must make use of all possible opportunities to showcase this fact” said Minister Arrindell.
Commission Zagers also used the opportunity to meet with several of the on-island private (non-government) stakeholders during his working visit to St. Maarten, with the intention of further building and strengthening Saba’s relationships with these prospective partners as well.
