PHILIPSBURG:— Saturday, August 21st, 2021, the Sint Maarten South Omega Leo Club hosted its Mental Health Awareness podcast with Ms. Zoya Hyman, an aspiring Forensic Mental Health Counselor. The Members conducted their live discussion on the Sint Maarten South Omega Leo Club’s Facebook page.
This initiative aims to bring awareness to the reality that most face daily, and too often in silence. No topic was off-limits with regards to depression, suicide, societal stigmas as well as the lack of support given to men, and the discussion went into other aspects related to real-life situations.
Omega Leo Club President Leo Javid Hurtault stated: “Our Members were motivated to have this live discussion due to what they have observed within our community, especially since the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have accelerated these circumstances. As a Service Club, we need to represent the voice of those who are unable to speak and to shed light on a very taboo topic within our community”.
