PHILIPSBURG:--- The Rotary Club of St. Maarten-Mid Isle was privileged to have The Honourable Judge Mauritz De Kort as their guest speaker at last Tuesday’s meeting. The Judge spoke to Rotarians about “Access to Justice” and our minimum rights to legal representation and a day in public court in case a person is suspected of a crime. This is based on articles in our constitution and according to the European Union’s Human Rights codes. He briefly explained the judicial court system and offered three examples of recent issues playing out in our society that could pose a threat to this right.
Rotarians found the brief lecture to be very interesting and took the opportunity to field many questions on the topic to Judge De Kort. The Rotary Club of St. Maarten-Mid Isle endeavors to invite guest speakers from various industries and organizations to enlighten members on what is taking place in the community.
The Rotary Club of St. Maarten-Mid Isle meets Tuesday at 7pm at Mary’s Boone in Simpson Bay. For more information please contact This email address is being protected from spambots.
