St. Maarten – Minister Ronald Plasterk (Kingdom Relations) has informed the Second chamber that the elections in St. Maarten are not a matter for the kingdom government. In a letter to the Dutch parliament – a reaction to a request for an update on the political developments in Philipsburg – the minister writes: “The preparations and the course of the elections are the responsibility of the government of St. Maarten. The kingdom government does not have a role in this.”
The letter furthermore only states that the Governor Holiday signed the national decree that schedules the dissolution of parliament for October 31 and the elections for September 26.
