Septuagenarian hospitalized after ill-treatment with shovel


GREAT BAY – A 70-year old man sustained serious injuries after another man hit him on his head with a shovel last Sunday. The incident happened in Sucker Garden around 10.30 p.m. The victim, N.M., is in critical but stable condition at the Intensive Care Unit of the St. Maarten Medical Center.

When police arrived on the scene the victim was lying unconscious on the ground with serious head injuries. Paramedics treated him on the scene before transporting him to the hospital.

Another man, 46-year old B.R. approached the officers and told them that he had hit the victim with a shovel on his head. Officers took the man into custody where he remains pending further investigation.
