GREAT BAY — Several armed robberies were committed over the past couple of days with the highlight happening on Saturday morning in broad day light on Front Street where a jewelry store was robbed by four masked and armed men. Read more on that story online here…
Earlier, on Thursday around 1 p.m. a man entered the Zong supermarket in Middle Region where he threatened the cashier with a machete. He robbed the store of an undisclosed amount of cash and fled on foot. The special Robbery unit is investigating the case.
Then on Saturday evening, police nabbed two suspects shortly after robbery in St. Peters.
Police officers arrested 25-year old R.B. and 29-year old R.E.P. on Saturday in St. Peters, shortly after an armed robbery had taken place at the Desam supermarket. A patrol saw the men sitting in a car on Apricot Road. A search of the car yielded a firearm and a considerable amount of cash.
The men could not give a good explanation for the origin of the cash or whom the gun’s ownership. They were arrested and taken to the police station in Philipsburg.
The armed robbery at the Desam supermarket took place around 6 p.m. and armed and masked man entered the store, threatened the cashier with a gun and robbed the place of an undisclosed amount of cash. He fled on foot towards the back of the building.
Police reacted quickly and found the men after an intense search of the St. Peters neighborhood.
