Student voting law to parliament

ST.MAARTEN– Draft legislation that would enable students studying abroad to vote in local elections has been sent to parliament, Prime Minister William Marlin said yesterday.

The time is however too short for this legislation to take effect before the September 26 elections, even if parliament approved the law next week. After ratification, legislation is under review at the office of the Ombudsman for a period of six weeks.
