St. Maarten News – Montage N.V. has announced the twenty finalists for the carnival’s Soca Rumble Power and Groovy competition on Friday, April 15 in Carnival Village.

Each category, Power and Groovy, has ten finalists, eleven when you count the reigning monarch in each category who will have to defend his crown. All finalists were selected by a panel of judges. The songs were submitted without artist names and were judged based on the arrangements, delivery, timely submissions and show readiness.

According to organizers, the judges had a challenge this year to select the top ten in each category based on the amount of great song entries received. “We are thankful to all the submissions received and congratulated all for producing good St. Maarten Soca music,” organizers said.

The finalists for the Power Soca category are (not listed in any particular order): Big George, Urmain, King James, Baker Jr., Rey, Empress Ebony, Kenyo, King Vers, Mighty Dow and Magic.

The finalists in the Groovy Soca category are Lady Baker, Kenyo, Shakiya, Roxxy, Ric Da Fox, King James, Magic, King Vers, Fish da Mega Boss and Mighty Dow.

Organizers announced the opening of registration for the Soca rumble on November 9, 2015, giving potential participants ample time to produce their songs. To ensure proper event production and promotion, which includes giving the singers opportunities for ample radio and online play, organizers were strict with the deadline. All songs had to be submitted by January 25.

Soca Rumble will feature a new twist in the show this year – a Soca DJ Face Off Competition. During the Pure Soca party series in February and March the audience at those events will choose their favorite DJ. The top two DJ’s will face off on April 15 at Soca Rumble. The prize for the best DJ will be a Mac book pro 15″ inch and a Pioneer SZ controller.

“We expect high level of excitement again this year for Soca Rumble with everyone coming out to support their favorite artist. We are positioned as the first show in the Village so we are looking forward to setting the pace for a great Carnival. Congratulations to all the finalists, now let’s get ready to rumble,” organizers said.
