PHILIPSBURG–The author of the Stick o’ Fire books has donated NAf. 10,000 to I Too Can Learn Foundation.
Foundation Director Beverly Gibbs received a letter from the book’s author Mulberry Egstorf-Pantophlet on Tuesday stating that the funds had been transferred into the foundation’s account for the purchase of educational materials.
The funds were collected from a number of Egstorf-Pantophlet’s associates in the Netherlands who had expressed to her their sympathy for St. Maarten immediately after the Hurricane Irma disaster.
Being a specialist in orthopaedagogy herself, Egstorf-Pantophlet remembered Gibbs’ ongoing quest for funding for I Too Can Learn Foundation, which caters to the special needs of children with autism, Down syndrome and learning disabilities.
“I know from experience that this group of children needs super-special care and attention from extraordinarily motivated people. Ms. Gibbs strikes me as one of the latter, so I am happy with the opportunity to support her cause, with the help of other donators,” Egstorf-Pantophlet said.
Gibbs asked Egstorf-Pantophlet to convey her thanks to donors and said the funds would be spent for the start-up of constructing a much-needed playground with appropriate and safe play material. “Such a project is very costly to finance, but this donation is a very welcome start. Hopefully others will be encouraged to bring this project to fruition.” Gibbs said.
