PHILIPSBURG–Nineteen candidates are vying for seats in Parliament on the slate of the United St. Maarten (US Party in the February 26 snap parliamentary elections.

The slate, headed by party leader Member of Parliament (MP) Frans Richardson, was handed into the Central Voting Bureau this afternoon. Two women are in the number two and three spots: Tourism and Economic Affairs Minister Mellissa Arrindell Doncher and former Minister Maria Buncamper-Molanus.

Head of St. Maarten Tourist Bureau Rolando Brison and Head of Economic Licences Valya Lake-Pantophlet round off the top five for the blue party.

Returning candidates are Lloyd Paul, Richinel Brug, Lyndon Lewis, and Lisa Alexander.

At number 10 is Wilfred Williams, former National Alliance candidate Elvis Flanders, returning candidates Martin Wilson, Hillary Williams, Curtis Thomas, party president Agnes Brooks-Mardenborough, Sergio Bryson and Early Charlemagne.

Leo Lambriex and Cecil Nicholas rounded off the slate.

Notably absent from the party’s slate is MP Silvio Matser. He has opted to sit out the elections. This means the election will bring at least one new MP to the legislature.

The party does not require endorsement signatures because it earned three seats in the 2016 snap elections.
