PHILIPSBURG–The 23,130 eligible voters around the country will be able to cast their ballots at one of the twenty polling stations that will be open for the January 9, 2020, snap parliamentary elections.
Caretaker Prime Minister Wycliffe Smith told reporters on Wednesday that schools will be closed on Election Day.
Information obtained by The Daily Herald from Smith, shows that the largest number of eligible voters are registered to vote at polling station #14 – Belvedere Community Center, where 1,491 persons can vote, followed by polling station #7 – Rupert I Maynard Youth Community Center in St. Peters (1,487 persons) and then polling station #6 – Milton Peters College (1,483 persons). The smallest polling station is #19 – Pointe Blanche Prison (“Huis van Bewaring”), where 49 persons can cast their ballots.
The remaining polling stations are #1 – John Larmonie Center (977 persons); #2 – Sundial School (1,463); #3 – St. Maarten Senior Citizens Recreational Center (1,469); #4 – Sr. Marie Laurence School (1,445); #5 – Dutch Quarter Community Center (1,455); #8 – St. Maarten Academy (1,439); #9 – Bute Hotel (1,427); #10 – National Institute for Professional Advancement (NIPA), where 1,384 can vote; #11 – Charles Leopold Bell School (1,291 persons); #12 – Leonald Conner School (909 persons); #13 – Simpson Bay Sports Community Center (1,154); #15 – Melford Hazel Sports and Recreational Center (1,446); #16 – Methodist Agogic Center (1,206); #17 – Dutch Quarter Help Desk (505 persons); #18 – Seventh-Day Adventist School (976) and #20 – St. Martin’s Home in St. Johns, where 74 persons can vote.
