MARIGOT–Thanks to the financial help of the Rotary Club St. Martin Nord, twenty young people from Centre Symphorien d’Insertion (CSI) of French Quarter left for France on Wednesday for a three week stay of discovery, training and cultural appreciation.

The group, accompanied by five adult supervisors will be welcomed in Paris by the Secours Populaire. The programme from July 26 to 28 includes a cruise on the River Seine, an invitation to Disneyland, invitation to the Elysee Palace, the Palais de Luxembourg (National Assembly), the Louvre Museum, and an evening at the Theatre Montparnasse (La Folie Evasion).

From July 29 to August 15, the group will be welcomed by the Diocesan House of Merville in the North, supported by the Association Comédie Musicamp for an improvement in singing, dancing, music and theatre, on the basis of the show “Le Démarcheur d’Irma” which the CSI youngsters had already presented on July 5, at the Chamber of Commerce in Spring, Concordia.

The return to St. Martin via Guadeloupe is on August 16. Five of the children will not be coming back for the next school year. Three will return to the Navy school and two will continue their studies at the Lycée de Versailles.

“Thanks to Robert Elmudesi and Air Antilles for the special fares obtained on plane tickets, as well as to all the organisations and people who intervened (or who are still intervening during the next three weeks) so that this dream of travel could come true, so allowing young people who have never left St. Martin to discover horizons other than that of their “Irma-tised” island to develop their talents,” said Rotary Club in its release. “The list of generous donors will be published later by the CSI and the Rotary-Club when the children return.”

The Rotary Club of St. Martin Nord renews its call for donations for this and other post-hurricane projects and medium- or long-term projects by requesting financial participation from all companies or individuals of good will, either by cheque made out to the Rotary Club of St. Martin Nord (B.P. 1177, 97150 St. Martin), or by transfer to the “Shares” account of the Rotary Club de St. Martin Nord at CEPAC de Marigot, St. Martin (IBAN: FR76 1131 5000 0108 0107 2236 412 – BIC: CEPAFRPP131).

For individuals or corporate taxpayers of St. Martin, donations to local associations are tax deductible 80 per cent. A tax receipt will be immediately issued by the Treasurer of Rotary Club to generous donors, for their next tax return.
