PHILIPSBURG–Shaquille Arrindell (21) became the latest road fatality in St. Maarten, when he succumbed to injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident on A.J.C. Brouwer Road early Sunday morning.
Police spokesperson Chief Inspector Ricardo Henson said the traffic investigation revealed that the victim lost control of his vehicle and slammed into a light pole causing the vehicle to overturn. The impact caused Arrindell be thrown from the vehicle resulting in his tragic death.
Henson said in a press release on Sunday that the police received a call around 3:10am that there had been a serious accident on the AJC Brouwer Road involving a car which had been lying on its side. The paramedics and Police Traffic Department were immediately sent to the scene to investigate.
In his release, Henson identified the driver by his initials S.R.A.; Arrindell was treated on the scene by paramedics and was pronounced dead on arrival at the St. Maarten Medical Center.
