PHILIPSBURG–Up to Monday, a total of 2,654 pairs of the 2017 number plates had been sold and the corresponding amount of motor vehicle tax paid, Receiver Minerva Gumbs said.
She noted also that a CRIB number is not a requirement to pay motor vehicle tax. A valid insurance document and inspection card are needed for payment to be processed. “The sales are going smoothly as there is a constant line. We do urge our clients to come in as soon as possible and don’t wait [until – Ed.] last minute to avoid the long lines,” Gumbs told The Daily Herald.
Gumbs said there will not be any extra opening hours in January as the lines at this time do not require this. “However, we do intend to have extended hours in February which will be announced at a later date.”
The deadline to pay motor vehicle tax by law is February 28. The 2017 number plate is grey in colour and has the words The Friendly Island at the top and St. Maarten at the bottom. The plates arrived in the country in December and were ready for sales as of January 2. More than 29,000 pairs of plates arrived.\

The price for the number plate is NAf. 12.50 for all types of vehicles, and NAf. 7.50 for motorbikes. Motorists with number plates M, P, SXM, MR (ministers) and PAR (parliament) will pay NAf. 275 in motor vehicle tax for gasoline-operated vehicles and NAf. 750 for diesel fuel-operated ones.

I agree with Hoover. Garbage enough. And than again, is this an employment project? How stupid is this. Grow up and get in touch with reality, there is something like internet, computers, databases.
Seriously people, are we still changing plates every year? And we have a dump that is overflowing with our garbage. How about a sticker every 2 years?
