PHILIPSBURG–The road to Carnival 50 continues with the annual Around Town Jump-Up today, Friday, starting at 8:00pm.
The Jump-up will start in the district of Madame Estate and proceed via A.Th. Illidge Road to the junction of A.Th. Illidge Road, Prins Bernhard Bridge, Long Wall Road and Walter Nisbeth Road, turn left onto Walter Nisbeth Road to W. Percy M. LaBega Street, left onto Long Wall Road, left onto Front Street to Emmaplein and onto Welvaart Bridge, left onto Juancho Yrausquin Boulevard to Freedom Fighters Roundabout, left onto Walter Nisbeth Road to the Salt Pickers Roundabout, right onto Soualiga Boulevard and will end in front of Festival Village.
All streets, roads and alleys connected to the route will be closed to all motor vehicle traffic during the passing of the jump-up. When the jump-up has passed, these roads will immediately reopen to all traffic, according to police.
On the day of the jump-up, Front Street will be closed from 6:00pm until the jump-up has passed. Residents, hotel and guest-house operators on Front Street are advised to take keen note of this information and are requested to inform their guests not to park on Front Street during the time it is closed.
The police remind the community that the fines transaction list remains in effect and any misconduct during this period will be dealt with immediately. The police also remind vendors not to serve any drinks in glass bottles or glass containers, for safety reasons.
