MAHO–Forty students graduated from University of St. Martin (USM) during a ceremony held at Sonesta Maho Beach Resort and Casino on Saturday, June 24.
Of the 40 graduates, 37 received their Associate’s Degrees and three received their Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC) certificates.
Several students graduated with honours: one graduated summa cum laude, two magna cum laude and four cum laude.
Awards were presented to Shevonne Richardson, who earned the highest Grade Point Average (GPA) from the graduating class and was the recipient of the Award for Academic Excellence; Rochana Richardson, who provided the most support to USM received the President’s Award and Christela Pierre and Alexandra Baly-Stanford received the Board of Directors Award, while Patti Maier got the Faculty of the Year award.
USM alumni and PhD candidate Rolinda Carter made an appearance as the keynote speaker. Member of the USM Board Danny Ramchandani revealed plans for a revolutionised USM campus with dormitories and updated classroom technologies.
The second celebratory moment for USM occurred on Wednesday, June 28, when 13 teachers from St. Barthelemy and St. Martin graduated from the English as a Second Language (ESL) programme. This ceremony was held at USM. The French-speaking teachers completed their level 3 certificate and are eager to complete all 6 levels, USM said in a press release on Thursday. However, this does not end the procession of graduates to come out of the university this year. USM said it plans to host the next graduation ceremony for the GED and Pre-USM on August 5.
The team at USM encourages interested persons to apply for the Fall semester before July 9. Applications can be submitted online via www.usm.sx. For more information visit the website or the campus.
