MARIGOT–The fifth selection committee for INTERREG Caraïbes was convened in Hotel de la Collectivité on July 23 and presided over by President Daniel Gibbs. In accordance with the geographical rotation it was St. Martin’s turn to host the selection committee.
The objective of the INTERREG Caraïbes cooperation programme is to respond to the common issues and challenges of the countries and territories in the Caribbean region, in particular by financing structuring and win-win projects.
The selection committee was held in the presence of the Région of Guadeloupe, the Managing Authority of the programme and represented by Marie-Luce Penchard, Second Vice-President of the Commission for Cooperation and European Affairs and Universities, as well as representatives of the local authorities of Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Martinique and St. Martin, and representatives of Caribbean regional organisations – Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), Association of Caribbean States AEC, Forum of the Caribbean Group of African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) States CARIFORUM – and State representatives.
The committee evaluated the six projects submitted to it at the Technical Committee meeting on Friday, July 12, according to specific regulatory criteria defined by the partnership. Project leaders had the opportunity to present their project in a way that adequately addresses one or more issues in the cooperation area, and involves a rich and relevant partnership.
The six projects were CLARAC – Resilience and adaptation of Caribbean local authorities to climate change – with ADEME as project leader; ARC-Antilles – support for building resilience to climate risks in the Caribbean – with University of the West Indies as project leader; Sargassum Project – cooperation programme to combat Sargasso algae – with project leader Regional Council of Guadeloupe; Cité d’histoire des Corsaires et Filibustiers des Caraïbes (CCFC) with project leader Etablissement LAJUS; ACT Caribbean – theatrical actions – with project leader Compagnie SIYAJ; and HOLA CARIBE – Holistic approach to Caribbean biodiversity through characterisation, enhancement and innovation – project leader University of the West Indies.
