65-year-old wins Lucky Pick’s 92,000 jackpot | THE DAILY HERALD

PHILIPSBURG–“Happy, happy, happy.” This is how Lucky Pick Jackpot winner Gerardo Daniel Paris (65) of Philipsburg, St. Maarten, describes his mood, after winning US $92,662 in Caribbean Lottery’s Lucky Pick game on August 1.

Paris is planning to use his winnings to visit his children and grandchildren in the Dominican Republic, where he was born. “With this money, I am planning to travel to my country to visit my children and grandchildren and assist them in whatever way I can,” he said with obvious delight.

Paris is still coming to terms with his win. “I have been playing for a long time. Now that I have won, it takes a good time to digest it. My win will enable me to do things I have always wanted to do, but haven’t been able to afford, like fixing up the house. But I don’t plan to spend all my money. I will definitely save some,” he said.

Paris is very much a family man. In his native country he has three children, 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. “I haven’t seen my family for six years,” he said. “I am looking forward to seeing them.”

Birthdates are important for Paris. He uses his own birthdate and those of his children to choose his Lucky Pick numbers. While every player has his or her own method and technique, Paris uses the same two sets of numbers for Lucky Pick (which he has been playing since it started).

He uses his instincts, too: “I alternate them when I feel that one set is luckier than the other,” he said, adding, “I play Lucky Pick almost every day.”

He plans to continue to do so, because as he points out, “You never know when it will be your lucky day.”

Caribbean Lottery Site Operations Manager Paula Williams congratulated Paris: “We are delighted to hear that Mr. Paris’ win will enable him to reunite with his family. We at Caribbean Lottery wish him much happiness in the future.”
