PHILIPSBURG–St. Maarten Academy PSVE hosted a motivational day from 7:30am to 12:00pm on October 26, organised by the Student Care Department under the leadership of Barbara Cocks. The day’s activities targeted students from Form 1 to Form 3, exposing them to interactive workshops and activities facilitated by guest speakers and in-house presenters.
At the Form 1 level, students were engaged with topics such as “New drugs on the market” by Fernando Richardson, “Bullying/Peer Pressure” by Inspector Felix Richards, “How to be Successful in High School” by Dr. Roy Cotton, “Breathing Techniques” by Nkosasana Illis and “Pregnancy” by Damali Bryson.
Sessions benefitting students at the second form level were “Pregnancy” by Nirmala Vlaun, “Conflict Resolution” by Marisha Olivacce, “AAC” by Berdona Damenie and “The Influence of Drugs and Alcohol Through Music” by Lenworth Wilson.
The pre-exam class students were exposed to the topics “Entrepreneurship” by Darren Wilson, “Leadership” by Amanda Bedminister, “Vision Board” by Catherine Burns, “Job training/Future Career” by Kerry Laurence and “Relationship/Sex” presented by Audra Cabey.
A team-building scavenger hunt competition concluded the day’s activities. The winning teams, made up of mentors and students of the three levels, were awarded movie tickets for the entire team. Team 1C emerged winner at the Form 1 level, Team 2D won for the Form 2 level and at the Form 3 level team P3A won the team-building activity.
