All public transportation permit holders need letter to get plates

PHILIPSBURG–All public transportation permit holders need a “Confirmation Letter” to obtain their 2018 licence plates. Effective immediately, all public transportation permit holders can request a confirmation letter, according to the Ministry of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transportation and Telecommunication (TEATT) Inspectorate on Wednesday.

Additionally, the 2018 confirmation letter has a new format. As of 2018, unlike previous years, no separate vehicle inspection will be carried out by the Control Unit to obtain this document. All public transportation vehicles must have been inspected or re-inspected after September 2017 at the Motor Vehicle Inspection Centre on Soualiga Road opposite the Little League Ball Park.

Bus and Taxi must submit the following documents to request and obtain the confirmation letter: Public Transportation Permit (Owner and Helper/Assistant), driver’s licence of owner and helper/assistant, valid vehicle insurance, valid Vehicle Inspection Card (vehicle inspected after September 2017).

T and G plate holders must submit the following documents: Public Transportation Permit, valid vehicle insurance, valid Vehicle Inspection Card (Vehicle inspected after September 2017).

Car rentals must submit the following documents: Public Transportation Permit, valid vehicle insurance for their entire vehicle fleet, valid inspection card for each vehicle (inspection date post-September 2017). Rental car operators will need to contact/visit the department to request an appointment. On the appointed day and time, the abovementioned documents need to be brought in and submitted for processing.

The department will not retain copies/originals or hold any document. The confirmation letter will be processed and issued the appointment (same day). All documents will be returned at the end of the appointment. Car rental operators may also submit an overview of their vehicles in an Excel format.

For additional information or to make an appointment, contact the TEATT Inspectorate at tel. 527-3825 or visit its office at Yrausquin Boulevard #6 (office building opposite the former Sang’s Supermarket, downstairs) during office hours.
