All set for #sxmstrong Christmas Parade Fri.

PHILIPSBURG–The holiday spirit will be alive and well in town on Friday, December 22, when the #sxmstrong Christmas Parade takes off in Philipsburg, from 5:30pm.

  The event is being hosted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth, and Sport (ECYS). The parade will start on the W.J.A. Nisbeth Road (in front of the Sports Auditorium). Paraders will walk along the W.J.A. Nisbeth Road, on to Percy Labega Street, Kerkhof Straat, Front Street, Emmaplein, Juancho Yrasquin Boulevard, back on to the W.J.A. Nisbeth Road, Salt Pickers Roundabout, Soualiga Boulevard and will end in front of the St. Maarten Festival Village.

  Coordinators said spectators can expect to enjoy the musical tunes of the Generation New Status Drum Band, Dow’s Ebony Steel Orchestra and DJ Pauly. There will also be special appearances by Funtopia’s Stilt Walkers, Disney characters such as Mickey Mouse, Elsa and Olaf and the man from the North Pole himself – Santa Claus and his helpers. “The Ministry is proud to spread holiday cheer and round off the year of activities with an appropriately themed #sxmstrong Christmas Parade,” it was stated in a press release.

  There will also be giveaways during the parade such as Santa hats, candy canes and SXM Strong T-shirts. “We strongly encourage everyone to attend with their families and friends and do remember ’Tis the Season for Fêting and Merrymaking!”
