Anguilla team and officials at the Commonwealth Games.
ANGUILLA–Under the stewardship of Chef de Mission Parliamentary Secretary Cardigan Connor, Team Anguilla (cyclists, boxers and sprinters) is now all assembled on the Gold Coast ready for the Commonwealth Games from April 4 to 15.
A report from the team at the Games states, “We’ve had a fantastic welcome in the Games Village and all around the city. On Tuesday April 3 members of the team went to support the Queens Baton leg run by a local schoolboy, Bryce. He attends St. Andrews School on the Gold Coast which has been linked with Orelia Kelly Primary School in Anguilla for a number of years.
“Bryce was chosen to carry the baton because after seeing his mother going through cancer treatment, he raised around AU $20,000 to buy turtle-shaped nightlights for every child in Australia who was having cancer treatment to try and give them some comfort during scary times. Such a touching story and an amazing young boy.
“Wednesday, April 4, saw the spectacular Opening Ceremony with the team walking tall with the over 70 countries and territories into a stadium of 35,000 people. Our boxers are first up for Team Anguilla later this week – we’ll be shouting for you all!”
The 2018 Commonwealth Games, officially known as the XXI Games and commonly known as “Gold Coast 2018,” is an international multi-sport event for members of the Commonwealth. In total 275 events in 18 sports will be contested by participants from 70 countries.
