ANGUILLA–Without a doubt one of Anguilla’s favourite and most watched festival events, the Parade of Troupes will commence at 11:30am on Friday, August 10. This year’s parade will be one of the largest festival parades ever, with 559 participating troupe members confirmed. The troupes will begin from Coronation Park, parade through the streets of the Valley, and end at the Park where the winners will be announced.

The Marshall, Calvin Hughes will lead the parade and will be followed by the “Royal” contingent consisting of the winners of the various pageant competitions, five children’s troupes with the Island Majorettes troupe leading the way, followed by nine adult troops.

Chairperson of Anguilla’s Summer Festival Parade of Troupes, Keria Hughes said, “Approximately 55 primary school children from two of Anguilla’s primary schools and the Omololu International School will participate this year in the parade.” She expects the number of participating primary schools to increase next year.

Eutonya Browne, the costume designer for the primary school children troupes said, “There will be three children’s groups representing the categories of Music, Sports and On the Water. These are areas that Anguilla is recognised for worldwide.” Browne is working feverishly with the help of a handful of volunteers at the Mas costume camp, located at Campus B, to complete the finishing touches to the costumes. The crowds can expect to see loads of costume colour, glitter and originality on Friday as the troupes parade.
