CUL DE SAC–Agility games and a cartoon gallery of amusing dog pictures will highlight the Annual Dog Show of St. Maarten Animal Welfare Foundation slated for Sunday, November 15, from 1:00pm to 5:00pm at Emilio Wilson (EW) Historical and Cultural Park. This is the 20th year of the dog show.
In light of the anniversary, the foundation plans to make the show especially entertaining with a fun-filled “Doggie Olympics” comprising an obstacle course that is adjustable to the size of anyone’s dog, said Heather Caputo, Foundation Publicity Director. “The Dog Show provides the opportunity to share with the public our collection of hilarious dog-themed photos.”
Official judging of the dogs commences at 2:00pm with the large dog category for pure breeds as these are the dogs that agility games were originally designed for. “We certainly hope owners bring lots of them to test the agility obstacles. But, don’t count out the little dogs. Lower the bars and ramps and they can whip through obstacles as quick as their larger kin,” said Caputo.
Besides small, medium and large size categories for breed and non-breed, novelty classes such as Best Kiss are planned.
Owners will be presented ribbons and trophies based on their dogs’ overall condition and personality.
The traditional all-around trophy class will close the show.
Entry fee is US $10 per dog (US $5 for each additional dog) and entitles participants to all classes and activities.
Spectators are free of charge and are encouraged to come out and cheer on their favourite canines.
Food and drinks will be available at the dog show.
