ANGUILLA–The fishing village of Island Harbour, East End, is once again preparing to host its annual Festival Del Mar on and around its picturesque beach on Saturday, April 20, and Sunday, April 21. This will be the twelfth edition. The celebration of “all things of and from the sea” attracts huge crowds from around Anguilla as well neighbouring islands, all looking forward to participating in a multitude of activities and competitions for both children and adults, coupled with wonderful feasting opportunities in a relaxed and laid-back atmosphere.
Festival del Mar is included in Anguilla’s official calendar of events, and is featured as a key event in the ongoing Extraordinary Eats two-week campaign currently being promoted by the Anguilla Tourist Board. The festival kicks off early on Saturday morning, with fishing boats heading out to sea at 5:00am to participate in fishing competitions. On the beach, a variety of activities, games and competitions for the youngsters, plus music and mouth-watering seafood offerings will be ongoing throughout the day. The official opening ceremony starts at 6:00pm, followed by music from Shane & The Revolution Band of Atlanta, Georgia, and the Control Band of St. Martin until midnight.
Festival activities resume at 10:00am on Sunday with the Elliot Webster Memorial A Class Boat Race from Sandy Ground to Island Harbour. Multiple activities and abundant and varied seafood offerings will continue throughout the day and into the night. The musical entertainment line-up includes the Dyversity String Band, the Anguilla Bingi Drummers, Bookie & Friends, Roxxy & Carlos, Mystic Vibes and Bling Breezy. Boss and the Horse Power Band will be the closing act, playing for the crowd until the festival closes at 2:00am.
