Annual Risk Reduction Award Presentation Ceremony

 Awardees with Alliance Insurance and Government officials

ANGUILLA–On Wednesday, March 28, 2018, winners of the annual Risk Reduction Awards were announced and recognized for their work. The award ceremony recognized individuals for their accomplishments in the reduction of risk threats to the vulnerable communities of Anguilla.

In welcoming those in attendance Alwyn Richardson from Disaster Management said, “Disaster risk reduction is an urgent approach for ensuring long term protection against the impacts of disasters. The most successful and innovative technological advances for disaster reduction would mean nothing if they are not shared and understood by communities in need of protection.” He noted that this is the eighth year since the launch of the award and he commended the winners for their work.

For the second consecutive year the winner was the Nutrition & Health Promotion Unit of the Department of Health who received a Certificate of Distinction for their engagement in various health promotion initiatives in their effort to reduce the incidence and prevalence of Chronic Non Communicable Diseases. They were recognized for their proactive long term efforts and commitment to risk reduction and resilience in the local communities through training activities and educational programmes.

In second place and receiving a Certificate of Merit was the Anguilla Community Action Network (ACAN) who were recognized for their work in the prevention of HIV/AIDS and others Sexually Transmitted Infections. They were recognized for their excellent work
in risk reduction programming for safer and resilient communities.

Sandra Lovell, Director of Alliance Insurance Services said, “Alliance Insurance Services is once again extremely delighted to partner with the Department of Disaster Management in recognizing and awarding risk reduction activities in Anguilla. Risk Reduction should be a national priority and we must use knowledge, innovation and education to build a Culture of Safety and resilience at all levels and Alliance Insurance Services is committed in promoting inclusive and resilient approaches in Disaster Risk Reduction.”

Deputy Governor Perrin Bradley and the Director of Disaster Management Melissa Meade also stressed the importance of highlighting risks that affect the Anguillian community and doing the work to eradicate or mitigate them.
